Tim Howard Hates Trump Dance More Than Haircare Products
Tim Howard is an American sports legend.
He has the most caps and wins of any goalkeeper in US Soccer history, has played in three World Cups, and holds the record for most saves by any goalkeeper in a single game in World Cup history.
Not to mention he is my favorite US Soccer player of all-time, even though he never brought us real success on the international stage.
But his op-ed in The Daily Mail last week tackling Christian Pulisic and other athletes doing the viral Trump Dance showed just how out-of-touch he is with the world around him.
“Doing a dance that mimics Donald Trump is stupid. Why? Because, whether it's the president of the United States or my neighbor down the street, I would never back someone who I believe is racist. I wouldn't glorify that,” wrote Tim Howard.
Before we break down Howard’s close-minded op-ed, do you even know what the Trump Dance is?
If you don’t, I am glad you were finally freed from your captors! Welcome back to society. Hope everything is well and good now.
But here is a quick clip to catch you up, set to the YMCA song.
Seems harmless enough, right?
Almost looks like all the athletes in the video are having fun, completely unphased by how much hateful political rhetoric they are spreading… according to Howard.
Even comedian, host of Real Time on HBO, and staunchly outspoken Democrat Bill Maher found humor in the Trump Dance saying, “it looks like he’s jerking off two guys at once.”
Funny! Comedy! Reminds me of Elaine from Seinfeld showing off her own dancing skills at her company’s Christmas party.
American athletes agree with Maher and my own takeaway of Pres. Trump’s dancing and have begun celebrating goals, touchdowns, knockouts, or just making a big play with their own versions of the Trump Dance.
Not because it’s a political statement, as Howard would have you believe. But because it is funny!
What really triggered Howard to express his disgust with the Trump Dance to The Daily Mail, UK’s hardest-hitting news source, was when the dance crossed-over into his own protected world - US Soccer.
After Christian Pulisic scored a goal against Jamaica on November 18, he celebrated by doing none other than… the Trump Dance. His teammates even joined in.
Now, I’ll start by doing something Howard never did in his tabloid write-up and that’s give Pulisic his flowers for the sick goal instead of accusing him of glorifying racists.
And instead of assuming what Pulisic meant by his interpretation of the Trump Dance, let’s read his comments to reporters post-match when they asked him if it was a political statement or show of support for Pres. Trump.
“It’s not a political dance. It was just for fun. I saw a bunch of people do it and I thought it was funny.”
Sounds reasonable enough to me. After all, Pulisic is only 26 years old.
Have you ever tried to have a conversation with a 26 year old?
If you can get their attention away from their iPhone for two seconds, they will go on about bussin new songs that are cap rent-free gas while rizzing up a cheugy bae that lowkey ate and left no crumbs.
(I’m trying to keep up.)
Howard does not believe Pulisic or anyone else doing the Trump Dance for that matter and went on to say in his op-ed, “I don’t buy that. Any show of support for Donald Trump is political.”
This is the problem with Howard and anyone else suffering from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). They live in their own world and everyone that disagrees with them is racist or a pedophile or insert whatever the new term is to shift the conversation your way now is.
Not everything is or has to be political.
Sometimes you are a 26 year old soccer player who scores a sick goal and wants to do a silly dance you saw on the internet.
Or in Jon Jones case, you are a UFC Heavyweight Champion who just kicked his opponent into oblivion to retain your title.
Jon Jones actually surprised fans by breaking out the Trump Dance because he does not support Trump or follow him on any social media platforms.
However, he did follow VP Kamala Harris at the time of his UFC 309 win.
It’s almost as if he saw a bunch of people do a silly dance and thought it was funny.
But according to Howard, “you're on one side of this or the other.”
Howard is telling on himself here in his op-ed.
(See, I know some slang, too. Still got it!)
In his mind, you HAVE to be on one side or the other. After all, that is how it worked when he played soccer. One team wins and one team loses.
What he fails to realize is, some people just like to dance and have fun and be a part of a bigger collective… instead of just your own team.
But Howard hates the Trump Dance so much you would think he was somehow raised in the fictional town of Bomont, Utah where dancing is illegal.
(That’s a Footloose reference for those unfamiliar. I had to dig deep for that one.)
But luckily for us, we live in the United States of America.
A REAL place where dancing is not illegal and does not have to reflect anything at all, especially your political affiliation or beliefs.
With his definitive way of thinking, Howard is probably the type of guy who gets a lap dance at a strip club and is convinced the dancer loves him. Why else would she be dancing like that?
The Trump Dance IS stupid. Howard and I agree on that and I don’t think anyone disagrees with that sentiment.
When Pres. Trump does it, it makes it look like he’s jerking off two guys at once.
That’s objectively hilarious.
When anyone else mimics it, it most certainly does not mean they support racism or racists.
It just means they saw a silly dance on the internet and thought it would be funny to do it, too.
