Tua Needs A Talkin’ To-A
I’d like to preface this post by saying I am a Miami Dolphins fan. Losses ruin my week, I love the color teal, and I only eat Dolphin-safe tuna. Now that’s out of the way…
I CAN’T STAND TUA TAGOVAILOA!
Since he was drafted fifth in the 2020 NFL draft, he has missed 14 games due to injury. Of course during his 2023 contract year, he didn’t miss a single game and had career highs in passing yards (4624) and touchdowns (29).
Good for him, he got the bag (4yr/$212m).
Now fresh off the injured reserve, he spoke to the media and fielded plenty of warranted questions about his health and future in the NFL. The one question that jumped out to me was, “Will you wear a guardian cap?”
Tua, the starting quarterback of his family, then gave the most thoughtful answer that sent shockwaves through the press room.
“Nope.”
NOPE? Surely he misspoke. Afterall, he just suffered his third serious concussion that had people debating whether or not he should even continue playing football. Why would he not want to wear extra protection?
“Personal choice.”
Oh, so Tua is not just injury prone, but he’s also an idiot.
Does he think guardian caps look weird? Does he think people will make fun of him for wearing one?

We’ve all spent weeks stressing about if Tua plays again, he is risking enjoying life after football with his family and friends. And this guy won’t even wear a little extra protection that players around the NFL are now choosing to add to their practice and gameday repertoire.

Tua doesn’t even have to look outside of his own Polynesian heritage to find a convincing example of why he should wear a guardian cap i.e. Junior Seau. And I know Tua is young so maybe a little refresher. Seau committed suicide only three years after his NFL retirement by shooting himself in the chest so his brain could be studied for CTE (which he was proven to have after autopsy).
Now, I know Tua is a man of Christ who finds inspiration and guidance from the Big Guy upstairs. So maybe if we all pray for God to tell this kid to wear the damn guardian cap, He can pass along the message for us.
